Mary CARROLL is Managing Director of Titelbild Subtitling and Translation GmbH in Berlin, Germany, a company she founded in 1991. In 2008, Titelbild became part of the Red Bee Media Group. Titelbild specializes in access services and all forms of translation for the audiovisual media. Mary Carroll is a subtitling and communications consultant and trainer, and author of various publications related to subtitling and screen translation. She is a member of ESIST, the European Association for Studies in Screen Translation; the Transforum Coordination Committee for Translation Practice and Theory in Germany; BDÜ, the German Federal Association of Interpreters and Translators; and Transmedia research group. She has been a member of the Steering Committee of Languages and the Media since its inception in 1998.

Jorge DÍAZ CINTAS is Senior Lecturer in Translation at Imperial College London. He is the author of numerous articles and books on audiovisual translation, including Audiovisual Translation: Subtitling (with Aline Remael, 2007), Media for All (co-edited, 2007), The Didactics of Audiovisual Translation (edited, 2008), Audiovisual Translation: Language Transfer on Screen (co-edited, 2009) and New Trends in Audiovisual Translation (edited, 2009). Since 2002, he has been the president of the European Association for Studies in Screen Translation. He is a member of the international research group TransMedia.

Anna MATAMALA is a full-time lecturer at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Spain), where she coordinates the MA in Audiovisual Translation (www.fti.uab.es/audiovisual) and teaches Audiovisual Translation. She has been working as an audiovisual translator for more than ten years for the Catalan television TVC and holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Spain). Her main interests are audiovisual translation, media accessibility and applied linguistics. She has published in international journals such as Cadernos de Traduçao, Translation Watch Quarterly, Catalan Journal of Linguistics, and has forthcoming articles to be published in, among others, The Translator, Meta and Perspectives.

Josélia NEVES has a degree in Modern Languages and Literatures, an MA in English Studies and a PhD in Translation Studies, with a dissertation on Subtitling for the Deaf and the Hard of Hearing. She has taught at the Instituto Politécnico de Leiria and at the Universidade de Coimbra, in Portugal. She has carried out a number of action research projects within the field of sensory accessibility for television, cinema, DVD, eLearning/Web environments and cultural vensues (e.g. museums, theatre, opera). At present she is working on a post doctoral research project, at the Imperial College of London, which addresses inclusive communication in museums.

Pilar ORERO holds an MA in Translation from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) (Spain) and a PhD in Translation from UMIST (UK). She lectures at UAB, where she also coordinates the Online Master in Audiovisual Translation (http://www.fti.uab.es/onptav/). She is the co-editor of The Translator's Dialogue (1997) and the editor of Topics in Audiovisual Translation (2004), both published by John Benjamins. She is co-author of a forthcoming book on voice-over.

Aline REMAEL is professor at the Department of Translators and Interpreters of Artesis University College, Antwerp. Her main research interest is in audiovisual translation (intralingual and interlingual subtitling, subtitling for the deaf and hearing impaired, and audio description). She is currently involved in a joint research project on live subtitling with speech recognition technology, in collaboration with the Flemish public TV channel VRT. She is also involved in audio description (AD) projects with the Belgian confederation for the blind and partially sighted (Belgische Confederatie voor Blinden en Slechtzienden). She is the chief editor of her department’s journal Linguistica Antverpiensia New Series, Themes in Translation Studies (www.lans-tts.be) and has written extensively on AVT. She is the co-author of Audiovisual Translation: Subtitling with Jorge Diaz Cintas (2007, Manchester: St Jerome).

Diana SANCHEZ BA (hons) in Hispanic Studies (University of Manchester) MA in Translating (Salford University), has worked as a translator and subtitler since 1999, and as department manager of an audiovisual translation and media access company. She is an accessibility consultant at the Spanish Ministry of Social Welfare in the working groups which draw up the National Standards for media access services and also lectured on subtitling as part of the MA in Audiovisual Translation at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. She presently works for Mundovisión, a Red Bee Company, Seville, Spain.
